El Gouna 2025: Egypt’s Cinematic Gateway to the World

A Platform for Arab and International Cinema.

El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) has become one of the most famous and prestigious film festivals in the Arab world, blending cinematic excellence with social consciousness. Set against the stunning backdrop of Egypt’s Red Sea coast, GFF celebrates both Arab and international cinema, fostering dialogue between filmmakers and audiences from diverse backgrounds. Beyond the red carpet, the festival’s CineGouna Platform plays a vital role in nurturing emerging talent by offering funding, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Each year, GFF highlights pressing global themes — from climate change to human rights — using film as a bridge between art and advocacy. Its combination of glamour, creative innovation, and social engagement has earned El Gouna a reputation as the “Cannes of the Middle East,” making it a cornerstone of Egypt’s modern cultural identity. Egypt’s El-Gouna Film Festival is bringing back its “Window on Palestine” program for the third year.

Set to run from Oct. 16 to 24, the festival’s eighth edition will play host to a roster of Palestinian films in the special section.

“Window on Palestine” is a special section of the El Gouna Film Festival that focuses on films from Palestine, particularly stories that capture resilience, creativity, and the lived realities in Gaza. For GFF 2025 (October 16-24), the programme returns for the third year, once again centering Palestinian voices and short documentaries developed under challenging conditions.

Cinema has a profound power to document and to heal, and it is our duty to provide a space where the world can witness the incredible resilience and artistry of the Palestinian people.

Through initiatives like “Window on Palestine,” the festival turns the screen into both a canvas of expression and a platform for resistance. These films created often under conditions of hardship and uncertainty reflect the daily courage, creativity, and hope of Palestinian filmmakers who continue to tell their stories despite enormous obstacles. Each frame becomes an act of defiance; each story a reminder that art can thrive even amid destruction

The programme is more than just a film screening. It’s about giving voice to those who often have no safe or wide platform. It documents stories of trauma, loss, but also of hope, defiance, cultural survival. It helps bring international attention to the talents and challenges of filmmakers in Gaza, often working under extreme limitations.
